Gyms have been open for just over a week now, which is great news. Whether you are looking to shift that 'Lockdown Belly', get back to throwing Olympic bars around again or just get out of the house, it's a welcome relief. Cabin Fever is real!!!
However, even if you have stayed relatively active and disciplined throughout lockdown, there is a good chance that you will have experienced a change in your fitness levels and reduction in mobility (working from the dining room table or sofa anyone??).
You may be tempted to go hell for leather when you return to the gym or exercise classes, and I wouldn't blame you. You have missed it after all. Though, have you ever been super hungry and gorged on a feast and regretted it? I have. Ever taken a break from sport or exercise and jumped straight back into it without allowing your body some time to get used to it and woken up like the Tin Man?! Again, I have. On that note, I cannot urge you enough to take it one step at a time. I'm not talking months and months, just a few weeks. High impact exercise can play havoc on joints, muscles and tendons if the individual is not prepared through gradual progressive overload.
Just a quick post. I wish you all the best in getting back to your previous best. Keep the ego in check, give yourself ample time to adapt and you will soon be ringing the PB bell again.
